We were delighted to speak to Veronique Fricke, Director of Corporate Affairs at Rose Bruford College, about what winning the Lecturers and Teaching Quality award at the Whatuni Student Choice Awards 2024 meant to her institution.
This year a record-breaking 39,000+ student reviews were submitted across the UK for various categories that impact student lives. Winning the Lecturers and Teaching Quality category is a particularly significant win and a testimony of how well Rose Bruford College is delivering for its students.
The Review Collection cycle is fundamental to the WUSCAs, why do you think it's important for universities to capture the student voice?
Capturing the student’s voice is crucial for providing authentic feedback on the student experience. At Rose Bruford College, our students are at the heart of everything we do, and their opinions are invaluable in shaping our educational offerings and campus life. This feedback helps to continually improve and adapt to meet the evolving needs of our students, ensuring we provide the best possible arts education.
Taking part in Review Collection ensures universities learn exactly what students think about their institutions, what are some of the ways you could use this insight?
Universities can use student feedback in numerous ways. At Bruford, we use this insight to improve campus facilities and develop new support services. It helps us identify areas of excellence we can build upon and areas for improvement. This data contributes to invaluable strategic planning and decision-making across the institution, as well as helping to nurture trust.

Engagement leads to positive change. At Bruford, more students are seeing the tangible impact of their feedback, so they want to get involved. Today's students are also part of a generation that values transparency and authenticity. They understand the power of their voice in shaping their and future students’ educational experiences.
What do you believe are the factors that led to Rose Bruford College winning the Lecturers and Teaching Quality category at WUSCAs 2024?
Rose Bruford College's win in the Lecturers and Teaching Quality category at WUSCAs 2024 is a testament to our commitment to excellence in arts education. Our highly skilled and passionate faculty, educators and practising artists are to thank for our success, alongside our innovative curriculum blending theory with practical, industry-relevant experience. We also have a very personalised approach to learning, which enhances each student's artistic development.
What has this win meant to Rose Bruford College and what has it meant to your students?
This win has been incredibly meaningful for Rose Bruford College. They validate our approach to higher education and reaffirm our position as a leading institution in this field at a time when HEIs are experiencing changes in government policies and funding. For our community, it's a source of pride and confidence. It provides more transparency and reassures students that they've chosen an institution recognised for its teaching quality, crucial in the competitive world of the arts.
How have you been using this achievement to promote your institution to prospective students?
We've been leveraging this achievement to promote our institution, highlighting the awards across various communications. During student recruitment events, we’ve used the awards to demonstrate the quality of our education and the value of our degrees to prospective students. We've reached out to our alumni network to invite them to spread the word about this recognition; after all, their success in the industry directly reflects the quality of education they received here. We also share our accomplishments with our stakeholders and wider community daily so that they understand the impact we’re having on our students and our industry.
